“My Son The Enemy” is a fictional novel based on truth. It follows the lives of a wealthy German Jewish family in Berlin in the 1930s. They suffer persecution by the Nazi’s, one endures many years in a concentration camp, followed by a further two years detention on the Island of Cyprus by the British Government from 1946 -1948.

In 1930 the family sent their youngest member (a five year old child) to an Aunt in England to escape from Hitler. Unknown to the family her husband hated Jews, converts the boy to a typical Englishman and changes his name from Simon Schuman to Alan Lambert.

The boy’s Uncle escapes from Germany to Palestine and becomes a Jewish terrorist, fighting British soldiers.

By an intriguing piece of creative writing, the climax of the story is reached in 1946. The boy, an officer in the British Army, is guarding holocaust survivors who are being detained in the camps on the Island of Cyprus. His mother is one of the detainees and hates the British. His Uncle is a terrorist in nearby Palestine and neither Mother, Son or Uncle are aware of the others existence.

The love aspect of the story is treated with dignity, gradually working up to a wonderful ending.

The book is available by posting £9.95 plus post & package (UK & BFPO: £1.50, Europe: £3.50, World-wide: £6.00) to Carole Pritchard, 18 Provident Street, Pelton Lane Ends, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham DH2 1NS. Cheques made payable to “Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street”.
